1ST ANNUAL
CHORAL COMPOSITION COMPETITION
FOCUS:
The competition encourages and supports new choral compositions by American composers.
PRIZES:
First Place – $1,000 & public performance at the Venice Performing Arts Center
Second & Third Place – Recognition in all marketing
DATES:
November 1, 2024 – Submission deadline
December 1, 2024 – Winner announced
February 23, 2025 – Performance in concert
ELIGIBILITY:
- All ages are eligible.
- Submitted works must not be published, self-published or previously performed.
- Revoicings of previously published, self-published or performed works are not eligible.
- Composers may submit only one work for consideration.
- Works must be 3-5 minutes and scored for SATB and piano (2 hands).
- Works must use American text, to be determined by the composer, and sung in English.
- Entries will be judged on the creative strength of their musical ideas, their effectiveness in communicating the text in relation to the concert’s theme, their excellence of craft, and their contribution to the suitable repertoire for community choirs.

Stars & Stripes: Celebrating Great American Songs
From beloved patriotic anthems to iconic tunes from Broadway and beyond, this concert
showcases the diverse melodies that have shaped the nation’s cultural landscape.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:
- Email a pdf file of the score with application.
- Email an mp3 of a recording or a digital/MIDI mockup of the piece (optional).
- Mail $25 check or money order to The Venice Chorale, PO Box 1004, Venice, FL 34284 (Write COMPETITION on the memo line)
