Concert Choir
Over 20 Years of Harmony
How are Concert Choir members selected?
Singers for the February and April concerts can still be considered. Click here for the assessment form to complete and send to info@thevenicechorale.org.
Is the Concert Choir open to any age?
The chorus is open to anyone over 14 years old. We have a multi-generational mixture of members from high schoolers to active retirees.
The last time I sang was in my high school chorus, is that OK?
Absolutely.
What kind of musical experience do I need to have?
We are a chorus where you can come develop your skills and enjoy the experience. Usually, new members have some choral singing background and know at least the basics of sight-reading music. If you have a passion for singing and commitment to making the best music that you can, we would love to have you join us.
When and where are rehearsals?
Our rehearsals are held weekly on Monday evenings from 7:00 p.m. to 9:15 p.m. Extra Saturday rehearsals will be added if needed. Chorale members are expected to dedicate some time each week to studying and practicing the music between rehearsals. The rehearsal hall is conveniently located on the Venice High School campus, 1 Indian Avenue, Building 42, directly behind the Venice Performing Arts Center.
Directions from Tamiami Trail on the Island of Venice: travel East on Milan Ave. directly into the campus, continue past the tennis courts.
What is the attendance policy?
We expect members to attend all rehearsals. We do recognize that members may occasionally miss one or two rehearsals due to illness or scheduling conflicts. Members should work closely with their section leaders concerning their attendance records. Members should also warn section leaders ahead of time of any potential conflicts.
Do I have to purchase my own concert attire?
Members are required to provide their own “concert black” attire. We provide simple guidelines for what is acceptable.
Are there activities outside of singing in the three main concerts?
Yes! There are opportunities to perform at community outreach events, festivals, civic organizations, fundraisers and senior facilities, just to name a few. You can also volunteer to help with the music library, concert promotions, donor stewardship and apprentice mentorship.
Are there membership fees?
Our choir membership fees for the season are $150 – that includes four (4) concert tickets for you to share with family and friends! Family member discount is $100 per singer. Payments can be made at rehearsal with check payable to “The Venice Chorale” or by credit card online here.
