Concert Choir
Over 20 Years of Harmony
How are Concert Choir members selected?
Assessments for new singers are held annually in October. Additional assessments during the concert season may be scheduled at the discretion of the Music Director.
For the 2026-27 concert season, assessments will be held on October 5 prior to the first choir rehearsal. Click here for the assessment form to complete and submit prior to September 30.

Is the Concert Choir open to any age?
The chorus is open to anyone over 14 years old. We have a multi-generational mixture of members from high schoolers to active retirees.
What kind of musical experience do I need to have?
We are a chorus where you can come develop your skills and enjoy the experience. Usually, new members have some choral singing background and know at least the basics of sight-reading music. If you have a passion for singing and commitment to making the best music that you can, we would love to have you join us.
When and where are rehearsals?
Our rehearsals are held weekly on Monday evenings from 7:00 p.m. to 9:15 p.m. Extra rehearsals may be added if needed. Chorale members are expected to dedicate some time each week to studying and practicing the music between rehearsals. The rehearsal hall is conveniently located on the Venice High School campus, 1 Indian Avenue, Building 42, directly behind the Venice Performing Arts Center (enter driveway at the intersection of Milan Ave East and Bahama St; parking lot is in the back).
What is the attendance policy?
We expect members to attend all rehearsals. We do recognize that members may occasionally miss one or two rehearsals due to illness or scheduling conflicts. The Music Director and Choir Membership Chair should be notified of absences. Members should work closely with their section leaders concerning missed rehearsal materials.
Do I have to purchase my own concert attire?
Members are required to provide their own “concert black” attire. We provide simple guidelines for what is acceptable.
Are there activities outside of singing in the three main concerts?
Yes! There are opportunities to perform at community outreach events, festivals, civic organizations, fundraisers and senior facilities, just to name a few. You can also volunteer to help with the music library, concert marketing, donor stewardship, apprentice mentorship and the youth choir.
Are there membership fees?
Choir membership fees for the season are $150 – that includes all required music and four (4) concert tickets (a $100 value) for you to share with family and friends!
