Audition Information

We are glad you want to explore singing with us!

Auditions take place every September. If you are a singer 14 years of age or over and live in the greater Venice area, we want to hear from you at an audition – especially if you are a tenor or bass. If you are an alto or soprano, you are welcome to audition but you may be put on a waiting list. Please check back with us periodically at info@thevenicechorale.org.

While the ability to perfectly sight-read is not a requirement, potential singers must demonstrate an awareness of musical notation and a sensitivity to blending their voice with others. The most important considerations in an audition are vocal color, ability to blend (no wobbly vibrato) and ability to maintain pitch, along with listening and reading skills.

What are your auditions like?

Auditions for this chorus are not “pressure-cooker” events. We simply want to hear your voice, see what vocal range is comfortable for you and check out your basic instincts for melody and harmony. Confident music reading skills or prior choral experience is a plus, but not a requirement – especially if you have a “good ear” for music. Auditions do have a vocalism and sight-reading component, but it’s very simple and straightforward. Recorded and emailed auditions are recommended.

How do I sign up for an audition?

Start by filling out the audition form (click here) and send by email to pmadpak@thevenicechorale.org or mail a hard copy to P.O. Box 1004, Venice FL 34284. We will contact you to confirm!

When and where are the auditions held?

There are two ways to audition:

1. Submit digitally (preferred)
2. Perform in person

In-person auditions for the 2022-23 concert season will be held on Monday, September 12 and Monday, September 19 — 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. both days. The rehearsal hall is conveniently located on the Venice High School campus, Building 42, directly behind the Venice Performing Arts Center.

Directions from Tamiami Trail on the Island of Venice: travel East on Milan Ave. directly into the campus, continue past the tennis courts.

All auditions must be received no later than September 19, 2022 for consideration in the 2022-23 season. Note: auditions are not required for participation in the Youth Chorus.
